Located twenty miles south of Antsirabe, in the centre of Madagascar, Ibity has become over the years the meeting place of precious stones researchers.

Mont Ibity and the stones

The first thing that comes to your mind once again when you reach the site is the beauty of the landscape. Mount Ibity rises to a little more than 2250 m above sea level. It overlooks a number of traditional villages with the specific architectures of the central regions of Madagascar. With their roof stubble, and terra cotta walls, the traditional homes of local villagers resist the weather and the strong wind of the often frigid winter in the region. A large number of villagers engaged in the mining of semi-precious stones in the area. The tourmaline is the most sought after. It is also because of mineralogical richness of the area that the HOLCIM company has implemented its cement plant near Mount Ibity.
