The outcome of the secret vote revealed his victory by 25 votes against 18 for his challenger. General Rabotoarison has been elected as president du FFM (National Reconciliation Council). The retired National State Police officer was not that long ago merely one of the twenty candidates competing to claim this institution's presidency. He is now being tasked with inducing long term reconciliation between parties and figures actively involved in the crisis. A mission apparently deemed to succeed on a cold day in hell

National reconciliation: General Sylvain Rabotoarison elected as président of the FFM

the president of the FFM used to be Interior Minister, Environnment Minister as well as National State Police officer from 1997 to 2002. He has been collaborating with several of the Great Isle’s previous political ruling powers, namely those successively led by the elected presidents Albert Zafy, Didier Ratsiraka and Marc Ravalomanana. General Rabotoarison did not attend the voting session held on April 9th at the FFM’s facility.  A wee bit more surprising was the presence of the academic Mara Edouard, his second round adversary. The FFM’s 44 members are now settled, sorted and bound to tackle their mission
