Nosy Be Airport: prospecting for at least 24 billion MGA for its renovation

The fact of seeing the Air Madagascar’s new aircraft, Airbus A 340, landing in Nosy Be is still a dream, unless the transportation authority finds the sum of at least 24 billion MGA to renovate the airport and its runway. According to an official in charge of the project, “The renovation of the airport is a huge investment. And the 24 billion MGA is the minimum budget needed for the project which is not even sufficient for the extension works of the runway. Besides, this fund is not yet ready.”

The runway of the Nosy Be Airport is 1 290 meters long. Such dimension is sufficient for the Airbus A 340 to land and to take off from the airport, but in that case, the aircraft should not be loaded with its maximum capacity. The renovation works of the airport include the extension of the off-ramps which go from the runway to the parking lots. Because of their size, the engines of the aircraft can come down to even in grassy areas that may damage them. To fix that problem, 14 billion MGA is needed. The other 10 billion MGA will be used for the installation of the landing guiding equipments known as ILS (Instrument Landing System).

Nosy Be is a very important tourist site in Madagascar. The attractions and hotels in the island are ranked among the most beautiful in the world. It is for that specific reason that the local authority want at all costs to make the Airbus A 340 land in Nosy Be.
