Opposition parties want a meeting with Kofi Anna.

The adversaries of the incumbent Malagasy president, Marc Ravalomanana, have high hopes of meeting with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, when he comes to visit Madagascar. They want this opportunity to have their say versus that of the president. However Mr. Annan?s schedule thus far has no provision to meet with any representative of the opposition. The minister for Foreign Affairs has stated that there may be changes to the stated calendar. The Express headlines, ?The opposition are excluded from Kofi Annan?s schedule.? The author adds,? No invite, not even a hint that such an opening might be available has been forthcoming so far. It seems the esteemed visitor is to meet only with chief dignitaries. Ahmédou El Bécaye, special envoy of Kofi Annan, while here on the island in February to prepare the visit of the Secretary General, did indeed meet with the party heads, including the opposition, particularly with Professor Albert Zafy head of CRN and some few members of Arema.? Thus one might have expected some inclusions?
