Port of Toamasina: Simulation of oil spills at sea

So that the country can adequately react and provide effective intervention measures in case of potential oil spills at the Malagasy sea, a training session was organized by OLEP (Organization fighting against marine oil pollution) in the Port of Toamasina.

Indeed, a simulated spill of 500 tonnes of oil was performed yesterday in the Port as part of the training. Representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Forests, as well as civilian and military representatives working in the marine milieu are participating in the training session which ends today.

Necessary materials and infrastructures have been mobilized for the training. According to the General Coordinator of OLEP, Roland Rakotondrasata, the participants must be able to take quick decision and to react in a very short time in case of spills of oil and other dangerous substances, all this in order to preserve the marine environment.
