Eye witnesses reported a real mess at the Ivato airport at the time of the arrival of the different delegations which took part to the Maputo II summit.

Return from Maputo: Tension at the Ivato airport

The crowd was surprised to meet a full squadron of armed soldiers in the airport’s hall, soldiers from widely-known Special Forces of Intervention (FIS) controlled by commanders Charles Andrianasoavina and Lylison René Urbain.

The infuriated soldiers dashed straight toward the members of the Marc Ravalomanana mobility. Many believed that they were going to drag Manandafy Rakotonirina in custody again, after his release before the second leg of the Maputo summit, but the men in military fatigues stuck to a tense dispute with the “legalistic” Prime minister.

During discussions in Maputo, Manandafy would have uttered words judged as “defamatory” by the FIS. It is actually the squad which arrested Manandafy in the Carlton hotel by the end of April.

“Let him stay in Africa if he wants to” roared commander Lylison René while commenting Manandafy’s words.

The Marc Ravalomanana mobility presently choosed to keep out from commenting this incident at the Ivato airport.
