Seacology Prize 2010: awarded to Désiré Rabary

The Seacology Prize 2010 is awarded to Désiré Rabary, a manager of the conservation project of the Matsobe-Atsimo’s forest, a nature reserve located in the Commune of Belaoka-Marovato (Sava). A prize-giving ceremony will be held in the David Brower Center in October. During that ceremony, Désiré Rabary will receive his prize, a check of 10.000 US dollars. Reacting towards his being the winner of this prize, Désiré Rabary stated: “I am very happy to win this prize. I also feel very lucky. After several years of hard works and political instability, we could, in some way, keep safe our local biodiversity. I am going to invest this money in projects relating to tourist infrastructures and reforestation”.  A man having strong determination and good will, Désiré Rabary has become remarkable personality with his effort in defending the Antanetiambo’s private nature reserve. It is important to mention that for the time being, 60% of that nature reserve belongs to Rabary. And in the near future, this man of nature intends to take possession of the whole nature reserve, that is, in order to intensify and to be in complete control of the reforestation project.
