The Ambatovy project, meant to recover 60.000 tons of Nickel and 5.600 tons of cobalt, remains the largest ever mining project launched in Madagascar.

The Ambatovy project : incoming technical tests

Greg Fuhr, the Ambatovy project’s boss, announced to the press on October 7th 2010 at Tanandava Tamatave II, that the project would be tackling series of technical tests in the coming weeks. The first concerned sections would be the power station meant to produce energy for the whole factory, according to the project’s spokesman, Andry Ravelosoanirina.

The site’s official opening was completed in presence of the transitional prime minister, the mining and energy minister, the trade minister and the agriculture minister.

The project is well on its track, in spite of these weeks’ latest strikes launched by Malagasy workers. The full time exploitation will be starting next year
