The long road to Midongy

From the town of Vangaindrano, in the southeast of Madagascar, and yet accessible by paved road, it takes at least seven hours to reach the town of Midongy South, located just a little over 90 km. On forty kilometers, the road is still in good enough condition until you reach the village of Ranomena. From there, the real adventure begins. It will in effect to take more than 6 hours, even in the dry season to complete the approximately 55 kilometers of trails leading to Midongy South.

When you reach this place, you feel both a hard and an immense pleasure. The trouble because of the execrable state of the track but the fun because of the incomparable beauty of the landscape. Still covered with forest just over 30% of its area, the region of Midongy is a world apart. National Park Midongy admits almost no visitors except researchers and scientists, or those responsible for conservation projects, but allows travelers to admire the beauty of this unique nature of the North East of Madagascar. The town of Midongy itself, located in a basin, provides a panoramic view of the mountains still covered with greenery around.
