The President of the German Republic is here on official visit to Madagascar.

This is his second visit to Malagasy soil. Horst Kohler came here first in 2003 in his role as General Director of the International Monetary Fund. This, his second visit, is made in his role as the German President. About one hundred people make up the official entourage of the German president on his official visit including about twenty journalists and fifteen representatives of the German private sector. The trip is marked by the signing of a mutual investment protection treaty and by the solemn return of a lemur to the Tsimbazaza Zoological and Botanical gardens.
