According to the president of the Reporters’ Association, it might be hard to expect an immediate re-opening of Radio Fahazavana as long as the political situation is failing from evolving

the Radio Fahazavana channel has been the single one close to the oppostion and broadcasting after Andry Rajoelina’s rise to power in March 2009. The channel has openly been targeted by the putsch’s supporters.

On May 20th, Rado Fahazavana’s reporters made an error when calling upon the population to rescue the rebelling National State Police’s Intervention forces (FIGN) as these ones challenged the High Authority of Transition. The station was closed, its employees jailed. They spent several months behind bars in spite of their colleagues’ reactions

Ten reporters in all have been sent behind bars in Madagascar since the beginning of the year 2009’s political crisis, a second to none thing since 1960’s national independence
