UNESCO: Madagascar is at the forefront of the organization’s board

Good news for the Great Island.  During the 36th session of the General Conference of the Unesco, which is held every two years in the organization’s headquarters in Paris, Madagascar was elected Vice-President of the General Conference and thus becomes one of the 36 Vice- Presidents of this 36th session. The new Vice-Presidency of Madagascar is entrusted to the head of the delegation and no less charge d’affaires at the Permanent Representation of Madagascar within Unesco, Ny Toky Andriamanjato. Yesterday, Ny Toky Andriamanjato held an official speech during the plenary session of the General Conference.

The current position of Madagascar strengthens its presence inside the organs of the Unesco, in addition to the fact that, so far, Madagascar is already a member of several subsidiary branches of the organization, like the Intergovernmental Council of the Program Information for All, and the Intergovernmental Committee for the safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH).

As for the Presidency of the conference, the former Hungarian State Secretary for International Affairs for Education and Culture (2006-2009) and current Ambassador of Hungary to the Unesco since 2009, was elected president of the 36th session of general conference.
