“chosing the one they truly love in the run of elections is a basic human right to the Malagasy people.” The speech does not really suit a putsch maker who ousted a democratically elected President. Yet, Andry Rajoelina’s disappointment is clearly obvious. The transitional leader is attempting to appear as the solution to a crisis, which he unleashed, causing 5 years of more and more accurate poverty and rampaging violence for the sake of a dubious rule.

A fake democrat comes to term with his defeat

In his latest speech to the nation, Andry Rajoelina played the emotional card. Was expected a major political statement, a likely reshuffle of the government or a pending resignation. Was provided an emotional plea for comfort, rather suitable to martyrs, and not to the ruthless and remorseless politician that he has been proving to be.  “My patriotism is larger than my ambitions” he declared while substantiating his will to run the presidential race.

At the beginning of the year 2013, the same patriotism was said to have prompted him to stay away from any election. In face of such a contradiction, Andry Rajoelina blamed the necessity to be untrue to his word, as he usually is, on the development of the situation. After wall, who can ever best strong winds but a strong tree?

Andry Rajoelina definitely missed the opportunity to voluntarily pull  with honor out of the presidential race. By so doing, he has been opposing the capitalization of the ICG-M’s suggestions. He preferred an eviction from the Special Electoral Court in order to diffuse a feeling of injustice allegedly done to him: “I pledge respect to the Special Electoral Court’s decision”. Subsequently he called upon the Malagasy people to show evidence of solidarity into the organization of peaceful elections.

Andry Rajoelina will have to queue up and wait for the next opportunity to attempt a race to the presidency. He has of course not been the first one ever who altered the Constitution to his own profit. The TGV party did what it took to grant an unlimited mandate to its leader. But rather the year 2009’s putsch does cause the young putsch maker to get on the long term stigmatized, and therefore unable to get elected. Now that it is definitely clear, that neither legitimacy nor international acknowledge will ever be reached by this ruling power, its leader seems eager to get rid of this unnecessary burden.

“I long for becoming this country’s solution of the day and of tomorrow” he declared, while being on the verge of following former president Didier Ratsiraka’s steps. The former president also skipped one election. “Wisdom and Tolerance” he said to leave as legacy, actually without a single demonstration of his own mastery of these disciplines in five years.

The year 2009’s putsch maker leaves the front floor by the back door, evicted from the candidates’ starting line by a court. Yet, it never seems to be too late to speak one or two wonderful phrases back and forth: “I am bound to make a democratic and peaceful power transfer”. Andry Rajoelina has advocated democracy over three months in all, before banning every gathering and locking the Place of Democracy. His response to every protest was violence, gladly used by military forces closely supporting him. His small scale dictatorship has been undisputedly reigning over five years. An end to this finally seems to be in sight
