The secretary general of the international organization of the French speaking countries is calling upon political mobilities to resume negotiations in view of the implementation of the agreements signed in Maputo.

Abdou Diouf is calling upon moderation

The international community in general is concerned about the evolution of the Great Isle’s political situation; Abdou Diouf is not the only one. The secretary general of the French speaking countries believes that “only dialogue and good will from everyone can return stable peace”; therefore he is “calling for moderation and restraint from all parties, in order to let Madagascar recover its seat in the circle of Nations.”

A statement from the OIF read as following: “After due considerations, the general secretary believes that, in those conditions, any unilateral solution is jeopardizing the peaceful and consensual resolution of the crisis, and therefore unacceptable. He is emphatically urging the Malagasy parties to resume talks as soon as possible for the concerted implementation of the Maputo Agreements as well as for a quick clarification of a current political situation which especially remains preoccupying, in accordance with recommendations made by His Excellence Edem Kodjo, special envoy of the French speaking countries in Madagascar “.

At present, the situation in Madagascar is thoroughly bogged down. The resumption of talks is not very likely, while the language adopted by the different political mobilities seems more and more aggressive. Arrests and incarcerations of political figures have definitely resumed.
