About forty soldiers sent behind bars

The independence’s anniversary and that of the army has been celebrated June 26th. The stadium of Mahamasina, was as full as it is used to be every year. The parade has been applauded by the crowd.

This birthday was however not the same for everyone. About forty soldiers are currently in jail, in the run of the Malagasy political crisis. A large number of these soldiers is part of the National State Police’s Intervention Force (FIGN) that rebelled against the High Authority of Transition in May. The others are members of the former presidential guard, under Marc Ravalomanana’s rule, and are involved in the February 7th, 2009 case.

In his speech of June 26th, the ousted president, Marc Ravalomanana, made it clear that these soldiers’ custody was a proof that the country has failed from recovering social peace and national unity.
