Agriculture: the Japanese contribution remains important

The Japanese ambassador in Madagascar announced during the official release of the food aid for the benefit of the population in the southern part of Madagascar, sponsored by the Japanese government and supervised by the World Food Program, that his government has been working since 2009 on a project tending to increase rice productivity in highlands region like Alaotra Mangoro. In order to ensure the success of that project, the Japanese government has sent many Japanese experts in the field.

The ambassador did not fail to recapitulate the amount of aid granted by the Japanese government in the agriculture sector since 1980. In fact according to him, 22 food aid projects have been carried out whose total budget amounts to US$ 80 million, 22 non-repayable grants for the provision of agricultural equipments worth US$ 94 million. Given these figures, agriculture is one of the few sectors prioritized by the Japanese government in its effort to promote food safety and sustainable development in developing country like Madagascar.
