Located at the North of Madagascar, Analamera is a wild area where the crocodiles are venerated.

Analamera and the sacred crocodiles

Depending on the time of the year, it is possible to see the inhabitants of the region meeting on the banks of the lake Antanavo to sacrifice a zebu to the sauriens.

Those, like kings of the lake, come to be regaled. Then, a magic moment takes place during which crocodiles and human share an ancestral tradition.

The legend says that in the place of the lake, formerly, was an inhospitable village. The inhabitants of this village refused to give to drink to a thursty traveller.

Unfortunately for the villagers, this traveller was a wizard who curses the village. This one was absorbed under the water and its inhabitants transformed into crocodiles. Only an old woman survived, who finally had pity of the traveller and provided him with water. Thus, the inhabitants of the area, regarding themselves as the ancestors of this woman, share with the crocodiles which, after all, are part of their family.
