Bridge of Ambohimangakely: first opening to the public

Destroyed during the passage of the Cyclone Giovanna in February, the bridge of Ambohimangakely has been completely reconstructed and renovated since then. The construction works were undertaken by the Company Colas and lasted about four months and a half. During that period of time, people using the bridge, including those living in the surrounding areas and those traveling from or to the Eastern part of Madagascar, suffered greatly by the situation because they had to make a detour in order to reach the capital or to travel eastward.

Completely renovated at this point, the bridge is open to everyone, whether motorists, bikers or pedestrians. Structurally better than the old one, the new bridge of 26 meters long is bigger in size. It has two-way lanes and sidewalks for pedestrians and can support loads up to 60 tonnes. In addition, the height of the new bridge was raised of 1 meter from the old one and will have a lifetime of about one century. Concerning the budget, more than 2 531 billion MGA were injected in the construction works of the new bridge.

Since last Sunday, the new bridge of Ambohimangakely was first open to the public, which marks the end of the plight of the people using the bridge, especially those living in the surrounding neighborhoods. So, now the bridge is completely operational although its official inauguration date is yet undetermined.
