The latest manhunt which ended again in a bloodbath between bad guys and police officers is entrenching insecurity feelings in Antananarivo. This time around, the scene took place in the commercial district of Antaninarenina, a stone's throw away from the presidential palace. Organes Rakotomihantarizaka tried to moderate the tones set by police forces' violence.

City under siege: the regular police forces forced to play hard game, in defense

A couple of outlaws were killshot by a police’s intervention squad in Antaninarenina, the unusual event is on its way to become a casual scene. The public is currently very much polarized between, on one hand its very legitimate security concerns, and on the other hand, the shame of having to watch human dead bodies riddled with holes on TV on a daily basis. The HAT minister in charge of Public Security produced an official report of the events, which, for once in a lifetime, matched the reality reported by eye witnesses: Police officers were after a couple of outlaws preparing a hold up of a commercial bank located in the district of Antaninarenina. The outlaws refused to cooperate and draw their guns. “They shot first”, emphasized HAT minister Rakotomihantarizaka. Policemen replied and knocked them down.

The minister’s cold and pure summary is, in its quality, very much different from the passionate reports collected from eye witnesses visibly shocked by scenes of blood spilled on the pavement. “The bad boys have been caught, and apparently neutralized; but suddenly, the policeman shot him dead”, told one eye witness while specifying that he was observing from afar. Another ewe witness reported that the policeman reacted to the discovery of weapon while he was searching one bad guy’s bag. According to the police’s official report, there was an exchange of fire in Antaninarenina, although some watchers thought that the dead bad guys had no weapons in hand. The HAT minister of Home Security argued, however, that the GIR elements reacted in self-defense, in the run of arresting bandits before the completion of their crime; they refused to surrender on police forces’ bidding, they waved a threatening weapon in a hostile way… but speculations are keeping going on anyway.

One of the dead bad guys, named Lovakely, was part of a famous gangster family clan. Like his brothers, Lovakely made hold ups his specialty. Like his brothers, he died in action, his body riddled with police bullets. Lovakely and his still unidentified accomplice would have planned an operation in the very populous district of Antaninarenina in broad daylight. A gopher would have tipped the police forces about the operation planned by these dangerous outlaws already wanted for the murder of a police officer and various holdups. Their latest target would not have been the BOA bank as a whole, but one particular client. Lovakely would have been waiting for somebody supposed to collect a relevant amount of cash, quietly sat down on a bench of the opposite public garden. The police forces’ intervention squad would have reached the scene as they were about to step into action. Lovakely’s last chapter could be nothing else but a tragedy, as a foregone conclusion, dimmed to come true in the run of the current overheating climate.
