The capital city's streets are miles away to a real lull. A confrontation between wandering retailers and police forces has shaken Antananarivo this time around.

Clashes between wandering retailers and police forces

Political issues are no more the single cause for clashes the Malagasy capital city’s streets. Antananarivo city’s town hall is finding it quite hard to do away with several hundreds of wandering retailers invading the capital city’s streets and sidewalks on a daily basis. The phenomenon is actually closely linked to the political and economic crisis currently engulfing the country.

Overwhelmed by the resistance proposed by street merchants, Antananarivo city’s communal agents required military support in order to get rid of those swarming illegal retailers. By the beginning of the week, a confrontation between town hall’s employees and wandering retailers made four wounded victims. Eight persons have consiquently been stopped.

This situation compelled the town hall’s officials to vigorously tackle the issue. Elements from the joint police forces’ headquarters walked beside town hall’s agents this time around. Clashes were not avoided for so much in the vicinities of Analakely, downtown Antananarivo.
