The national electoral observation committee or KMF-CNOE is losing patience. This entity from the civil society is recommending the neutrality on top of the transition. For lack of consensus, an anticipated presidential election remains an option.

CNOE: a neutral transition or an election before long

The KMF-CNOE is keen on remaining neutral in the resolution of the political crisis which has been undermining the country since the beginning of the year. Although, such stand doesn’t hinder it from committing and involving itself into the process. The election is not an absolute priority for the KMF-CNOE, it is rather referring to a solution produced by the Maputo II meeting.

“Technicians and indeed neutral figures are those who have to lead the Transition”, suggested the CNOE. This entity is part of a very small minority longing for the Transition’s top seat to be given to none of the starring mobilities. The transition conceived Maputo has other institutions with advisory or legislative departments ready to welcome the politicians.

A failure of the Maputo process must not be the end of the world, according to the CNOE. “If no solution emerges from Maputo, we are calling upon the survey of the people’s true choice through elections in order to move forward into the 4th Republic”, read the statement.

The CNOE wants to take part into the erection of an independent national electoral Council, in order to make elections democratic, free and transparent in Madagascar. As for the expected timeline, the committee is calling upon a short delay. The process doesn’t necessarily match the roadmap basically drawn by the authorities of the de facto transition.

If there is no consensus, doing away with the Transition as soon as possible remains the best option. International recognition won’t be gained automatically. The international Contact Group repeatedly emphasized that no one-sidedly organized election would ever be recognized.
