The decree which appoints Régis Eugene Mangalaza as being the Transition's Prime Minister has been a little too hurried. A couple of days later, his predecessor is still in the palace of Mahazoarivo.

Eugene Mangalaza: merely appointed, and already contested

“Eugene Mangalaza is not an insurgent Prime minister” had to emphasize, at the time of a press conference, Tiébilé Dramé, the United Nations’ envoy within the team of mediation team in charge of the political crisis management in Madagascar. Defending the new government chief coming from the Didier Ratsiraka mobility has already proved necessary, a couple of days after his appointment, as he has immediately been disputed.

The grouping for Defence of Sovereignty (VMF) has been the first to raise its voice, after Monja Roindefo did so to refuse his destitution, for the time being.

As far as the VMF is concerned, Eugene Mangalaza is the Prime minister of the international community, not that of Madagascar. The snapshot of some foreign diplomats welcoming Eugene Mangalaza emerging from the plane on Saturday October 10th, is considered as an insult by the VMF. This radical group is rejecting the international community’s involvement in the Malagasy crisis.

Monja Roindefo himself decided to let the Justice decide on the question. The State Council ought to make a decision concerning a request put forth by the lawyers of the number one version Transition’s Prime Minister.

The request put forth by Masters Tombontsoa Raharijaona and Paul Joseph Rakotoarisoa is focusing on some “power abuse” from Andry Rajoelina as well as some “usurpation of powers”. This request’s goals are the suspension, then the cancellation of the decree appointing professor Mangalaza as Prime minister.

Besides, the government’s new chief has no office yet. His predecessor, Monja Roindefo, only intends to leave the palace of Mahazoarivo when the four political mobility leaders will have signed an agreement on the Transition’s key positions’ nominees. As for now, some heavily armed soldiers are securing the palace in which Roindefo has entrenched himself.
