The police officials, the interior Security and Defence ministers all agree on stating that specific measures will be taken to re-establish security in the country. The terrorism psychosis hits… the police forces, instead of the population which doesn't feel threatened in a conflict of political nature.

Fight against terrorism: security measures to reinforce

Even though scepticism about the existence of 3000 to 6000 hand made bombs still remains, the interior Security minister decided to reinforce security measures. Organès Rakotomihantarizaka apologizes in advance to the population over the annoyance that it could cause. In any case, police presence by night has been reinforced in response to terrorist threats.

These are usual police practices but this time, we decided to reinforce them “, said the interior Security minister of the transition government. “we are going to make controls and the searches of vehicles, in trunks and cockpits. Every vehicle suspected or not, is susceptible to be stopped and controlled. The search is the new thing.”

“We ask for citizens and drivers’ cooperation “, so apologized Organès Rakotomihantarizaka. The first device was not efficient at all since bombs have been recovered in several places even though these didn’t explode. The opinion puts pressure on the police forces to have genuine terrorists arrested. The investigators’ priorities raised doubts though: finding backers who have a precise political objective.

For the national defence secretary, strict measures are to be applied because the situation has gone beyond what is acceptable. “The city of Antananarivo is already squared, there are police forces’ positions, there will be cars ready for action “, explained colonel Rakotonandrasana. According to him, patrols will be completed but the real objective remains the arrest of bomb layers.

Four days after the terrorist acts whose perpetrators’ identity and political incentives are still to be debated, the soldiers finally appeared. “Every thing in its time”, justified minister Rakotonandrasana. “If we took our responsibilities too fast, you would have blamed us for not respecting human rights “.

The security measures will be reinforced in the whole island. Last Sunday, military squads rushed through the hot suburbs. A mean to deter from violence and a warning that the inhabitants didn’t necessarily understand.

Concerning the interior security question, the HAT puts the credibility of its power at stake. The whole propaganda around the arrest of the attempts’ presumed politician backers don’t eclipse the raging insecurity in the rural zones. Political terrorism in Antananarivo turns to obsession, at the expense of what is paramount, the daily security of citizens, on the whole territory.
