In the run of June 26th and 50th birthday of Madagascar's independence, an exchange of civilities by mail between Nicolas Sarkozy and Andry Rajoelina reminded the historic and domestic ties between both countries, beyond the political France confirmed its interest for Madagascar.

France-Madagascar: reciprocal and political congratulations

Mr. sarkozy is in touch with the “fihavanana!” He said so, at least he wrote so, well someone actually wrote it for him. “I expect the present crisis to reach a peaceful and consensual settlement quickly and in full compliance with the Malagasy value named Fihavanana” read his letter to Andry Rajoelina who, somehow, failed from celebrating June 26h, 2010 on top of a new republic as its brand new first president. “As many of your compatriots as well as Madagascar’s friends, I deeply regret that the symbolic celebration of the 50th independence’s birthday has to come true in an uneasy political period”, said the French president.

Nicolas Sarkozy addressed his most cordial congratulations to Andry Rajoelina as well as to all of his compatriots  Madagascar in the run of the Republic of Madagascar’s national day. He felt compelled to provide justifications as the ambassador Jean Châtaigner Marc did when attending a military parade boycotted by the other diplomatic representations. “Let me make this year’s celebration of the 50th birthday of Madagascar’s independence of Madagascar an opportunity to pay tribute to strong relation between our two nations, even more strenghtened by the relevance of Malagasy community in France, and that of the French community in Madagascar “, read Sarkozy’s speech.

“This relation is deeply engraved in the common history “, according to Nicolas Sarkozy, not through the blood spilled under colonization but rather through the involvement of Malagasy men in the colonial army under the French flag. “let this particular anniversary be for France’s opportunity to pay tribute and express solemn gratitude towards the African and Malagasy troops who fought in the name of its freedom. I am pulling satisfaction from the incoming involvement of one of the Malagasy armed forces’ squad in the parade on July 14th beside their African and French brothers-in-arms “.

Mother France recognizes Andry Rajoelina as” president” of Madagascar, not as republic’s president but as that of an authority. And sonny is in exultation, joyful and thankful. “The Malagasy people and my own self are honored to receive your cordial congratulations… We are equally grateful to France’s commitment to bring support to the quick completion of elections for the sake of the 4th Republic’s erection “. France renewed its determination to provide support to the national, regional and international initiatives meant to lead to a long term settlement of the crisis

Andry Rajoelina is normally not to be officially seen in France on July 14th since he didn’t receive any invitation official during the 20 days long period prior to the event. Might Madagascar have boycotted the parade on the Champs-Elysées? No. And yet Andry Rajoelina wrote “you can make sure that Madagascar will be present.”The detachment of our Malagasy Armed forces will be honored to be involved into he parade on the next July 14th “.

Andry Rajoelina recovered the obedient son’s statute since he has been declaring his intention to refrain from running the Presidential race. Daddy Sarkozy labeled this declaration as “good news “. The French president recognizes a Malagasy president who has not neither been elected nor been originated from a ” completely democratic process “,  as alleging that the latest elected and ousted president was not the purest model of democracy. The speck in the others’ eye and what about the log in yours?
