The putsch originated crisis engulfing the country has been bringing everything but progress in scores of fields. The Human Development Index in Madagascar has gradually been going down during the latest years: 0.571 in 2008, then 0.484 in 2010, and 0.480 in 2011. Madagascar is finally part of the countries with the lowest HDI ever.

Let it be recalled what the HDI actually is: a tool created by the United Nations’ Development Program. The following three major criteria are being considered in order to value a country’s development level: the standard of living per inhabitant, life expectancy and education standards. The political crisis and its economic fallbacks did absolutely not contribute to improve any of them, as far as Madagascar is concerned
