No less than two heads of major transitional institutions boycotted the ceremony held at the Palace of Iavoloha on June 26th national Independence Day. Transitional prime minister Jean Omer Beriziky and transitional congress' president Mamy Rakotoarivelo deprived the stage from their presence, just as the whole of the diplomatic body did. The transitional leader must have never felt so isolated.

Independence Day: Andry Rajoelina more alone than ever

Yet he even seems to enjoy the stand. Beside the usual nationalistic mottos, his speech reflected his will to run the elections whatever it takes. Rajoelina did not appear remotely concerned by causing pending sanctions from the International Community when declaring that “Madagascar got used to sanctions from the International Community” (Rajoelina dixit). Political isolation remains a matter of fact anyway for Rajoelina, be it in national or in international terms. Actually not even the French ambassador poked his nose into any of June 26th’s Independence Day ceremonies, even though France used to be represented by its embassy’s number one over the latest years. And the list is not over yet. None of the four heads of the FFKM Churches showed themselves, although Odon Razanakolona, the Catholic Church’s Archbishop, equally used to open June 26th’s celebrations during the transitional years.
