Internet: Wikipedia now available in Malagasy

Once again, Madagascar has made a great leap forward in the field of Internet. After the giant Google has revolutionized research on the Internet with the launch of google.mg with a Malagasy version of its homepage, it is now the turn of the free online encyclopedia Wikipedia to make that encyclopedia available in the language of Rabearivelo. Indeed, for several days now, the Malagasy version of Wikipedia has been uploaded by volunteer webmasters on http://mg.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fandraisana. The Malagasy version of this encyclopedia since its launch treats several subjects such as science, philosophy, culture, art, environment, and history.

Wikipedia is a universal multilingual free of charge online encyclopedia. Since its official launch by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger on January 15, 2001, it is available as a wiki within the wikipedia.org domain, where it is largely modifiable by most of its readers. Several other ways of consulting the encyclopedia then emerged, such as mirror websites, applications for smartphones or dedicated electronic devices. The same basic principles of writing are shared by the different language versions of the encyclopedia, but the writing processes are defined by Internet users independently for each of them.
