Itampolo forms, with Anakao (one hour of high-speed motorboat of Toliara), Lavanony or Cape Sainte Marie, these villages of fishermen who live on the large reefs of the south. The coral reef is the third larger of the world after the large coral barrier of Australia and that of Florida. Itampolo is a small paradise because, in spite of the extreme beauty of the site – beach of fine sand and emerald sea – it remains relatively preserved from tourists. The life is thus still authentic there.
In the early morning, one can look at the vezo fishermen leaving to seek the daily fish. Otherwise, it is possible to visit the caves where sometimes lemurs take refuge or to leave for an excursion on the Mahafaly plateau which shelters the heart of the ancestors, materialized there by the famous aloala tombs. Luckiest will be able to see the protected tortoises which elected residence there. The most adventurers can count on two infrastructures of reception. A hotel with camp-sites bus that hold place for bungalows and another which counts three rooms and four bungalows. The smile, and the cordial reception of the villagers are a no-claims bonus which is really worth the long trip to reach Itampolo.
