Madagascar being present in the Conference of the Parties (COP10) in Nagoya

A strong delegation led by the Minister in charge Environment and Forest, the General Herilanto Raveloharison, left Madagascar in order to attend the 10th Conference of the Parties (COP10) in the city of Nagoya, Japan. The Conference is being held in this city of Japan from October 18 to 29, 2010. The Malagasy delegation is mainly composed of high officials and technicians from the government’s different departments, including environment and forest department, valuation of natural resources department, and protected areas system department. Some NGOs working for the preservation of biodiversity are also among the delegation. “The participation of Madagascar in this conference witnesses the strong will and the particular interests of the country in the preservation of biodiversity in order to face the climate change phenomenon”, declared Laurette Rasoavahiny, a member of the delegation.  The conference is also an opportunity for each country signatory of the Biodiversity Convention to present their projects related to the preservation of biodiversity and the climate change. Madagascar, for instance, is undertaking diverse environment-preservation related projects, including the establishment of the Madagascar’s System of Protected Areas (SAPM), the preservation of submarine resources, and reforestation.
