The customs' officers are warning for a new strike. They have been requiring the replacement of their general manager, Vola Razafindramiandra.

New threat of strike from the custom services

The agents of the custom services gave an ultimatum of 72 hours to the High Authority of Transition. They have been requiring the departure of Vola Razafindramiandra since latest May of this year, and left high and dry by the authorities so far.

The grievances formulated by the customs’ officers are related to alleged “arbitrary” decisions from their general manager, for example affectations qualified as poorly founded by the personnel.

The new ultimatum has been given on October 30th. For the time being, the general manager is refraining from commenting this umpteenth threat against his own self.

Vola Razafindramiandra has thrice been appointed as general manager of the custom services. He has been toppled from his position following the deposition of Marc Ravalomanana in March, but quickly reinstated by the HAT for his expertise in the concerned field.

His agents definitely have another view about him. The mere fact that he has been in charge during the Marc Ravalomanana era is enough for his opponents to require his definitive replacement.

A strike has already started in June, and then it has been “suspended” due to negotiations between the custom services’ officers and the president of the High Authority of Transition, Andry Rajoelina. This latter is, now, awakened by the officers anew for the next round.
