The great isle has been being stranded in a particular situation since March 2009. The international community, namely the isle´s main financial backers, has been keeping on with humanitarian help but suspending their support to development.

Olivier de Schutter has called upon the World Bank, the European Union and the United States to resume providing support to the Great Isle, since their sanctions have been affecting far more the population than the imposed leadership, as noticed by the United Nations´ special envoy.
