« Ravintsara »: a new platform to improve its commercialization

In order to improve the commercialization of the “Ravintsara” in Madagascar, a new platform has just been set up. The establishment of this platform was made official at the Motel Anosy last Saturday. According to the explanations of Razafinakanga Alice, the main mission of this platform consists essentially of helping the people working in this particular sector which is starting to get the interest of many people in Madagascar.

As such, it has a goal of completely eradicating the existence of middleman in the commercialization of the “Ravintsara”, thus allowing its farmers and producers to reduce losses and to make the prices very competitive. Indeed, for some time, it was the middleman such as collectors who got rich from the sale of this plant mainly on the international market.

5 commissions from this platform will address some activities related to the commercialization of the “Ravintsara”, including the scientific aspect, the evaluation, the transforming process, the communication and especially the production.  From now on, the platform will ensure the interests of its members so that the sector could get further improvement because according to Mrs. Razafinakanga, the local supply does not meet the international demand of 100 tonnes per year as the Malagasy producers cannot yet export but only 35 tonnes per year.

One kilogram of the “Ravintsara” currently sells between 100 to 130 Euros as one “kapoaka” (a Nestlé bottle) of its powder is worth 150 000 Ariary. The “Ravintsara” sector is a new market opportunity which appears to be promising for Madagascar if properly exploited. It is to be noted that the quality of the Malagasy “Ravintsara” is recognized worldwide as among the best, and the essential oils from this plant are truly unique.
