Sanity manna: 5 million dollars for Madagascar

5 millions of US dollars will be granted to Madagascar over a 5 years long period. This envelope’s main purpose will be a communication campaign aiming at sensitizing the population, and changing mindsets concerning the use of latrines. The fund’s responsible is Medical Care Development International (MCDI). Money will be directed in three main branches: regional scale subsidies, support for existing projects and finally collateral subsidies. 

The projects will be centered on education and sanity demand stimulation. Construction costs are not included in the budget plan. The MCDI NGO is more especially targeting a layer of the population which rules out the use of closets on traditional or usual basis. The stake definitely has a significant public healthcare relevance. According to Michelle Rasamison from MCDI, eradicating open air defecation, diarrhea’s main factor, is the ultimate goal. Diarrhea has been being the main cause for an important illness related incapacity rate, as well as for fatalities.
