Swine flu in Madagascar

Swine flu has passed the borders of Madagascar. In all cases, Antananarivo’s Pasteur Institute and the healthcare authorities have officially let it known, while calling the population not to give in to panic.

An 8 year old girl who has been remaining in a country already hit by the A H1N1 flu has been confirmed to have contracted the disease. She is already currently being treated, as well as all of her relatives, in order to limit the spread of the disease to other individuals.

The healthcare authorities are inviting the population to signal any suspected case. Washing hands with soap several times a day would constitute the best prevention measure. It is allegedly the best mean to avoid the quick spread of the virus.

Following the registration of the first cases of swine flu in Madagascar’s neighbouring island, namely in Mauritius and particularly in La Reunion which has already recorded several tenths of confirmed cases, the Great Isle could not escape this pandemic any longer.

The healthcare authorities affirm that means to face up to the situation are sufficient, for the time being.
