Prince Zakariasy Patrick still remains behind bars. According to the tradition, he is part of his native land’s nobility, and according to modern standards, an engineer specialized in water and water resources management as well. On this latest account, his fellow engineers are now mobilizing for his sake.

The agronomists’ Trade Union denouncing the imprisonment of Patrick Zakariasy

“Zakariasy Patrick told nothing the truth, but instead of tackling an investigation based on his revelations, the ruling power rather sent him behind bars” declared Rakotondrazafy, the president of the agronomists’ Union (SIAM). He subsequently denounced the ruling power’s poor management of natural resources in Madagascar, and also criticized its lack of rationalism in its human resources management. Madagascar has indeed currently some 2,000 agronomists in various fields (agriculture, fisheries, livestock, water and forests). Only 300 of them, though, are currently serving into the public sector.

In addition to this all, the Ministry in charge of Environmental matters is being beheaded, for having been lacking a leadership during the latest seven months, a fact which is everything but pleasing the agronomists’ Union. Strikes have already been tackled, namely by the Forest Resources Management Department’s Union (Scofafor), one component of the SIAM. Agricultural engineers are now emphatically requiring the immediate appointment of a new minister.
