During an extraordinary meeting, the members of Antananarivo's city council decided to dismiss the capital city's mayor.

The City council dismisses Michèle Ratsivalaka

For several weeks, the possible replacement of Michèle Ratsivalaka, as head of Antananarivo’s town hall, has been evoked by the press.

All began last month when the garbage began to invade the capital city. The management of the capital city proved to be complicated for the town hall’s new team whereas the inhabitants never stopped asking for a better purification.

Designated by Andry Rajoelina, currently president of the High Authority of Transition, to direct the capital city’s town hall, Ratsivalaka has been lately challenged when the garbage invaded different streets of the city. The situation hasn’t evolved much though during the latest week. Hence fell the city council’s decision to dismiss her.

Before, Ratsivalaka has been Deputy mayor when Rajoelina has been elected at the head of the capital city.

The revocation and the possible replacement of Michèle Ratsivalaka will however have to wait for the government’s validation. The ministry of decentralization and the Home Affairs Secretary are quite concerned, because another administrator will have to be appointed at the head of Antananarivo’s town hall until the next local elections.
