Religious leaders making the Clerics' Movement are seriously bothering the High Authority of Transition. A religious ceremony and one day of fasting are being programmed on February 18. A "procession" is planned on Saturday February 20th.

The clerical leaders are planning a “procession” through the capital city streets

For the HAT, the so called “procession” is nothing but a street demonstration challenging the ruling power. Media groups close to the transitional leader, Andry Rajoelina, keep on disparaging the clerical movement. The transitional regime’s supporters simply take it this way: the religious leaders in question are working for the ousted president Marc Ravalomanana.

What can be held for granted is the fact that all of the clerical movement’s actions and statements have, so far, been challenging the HAT. Clerics claimed more freedom of speech, they condemned the Fahazavàna radio station’s reporters, they are pledging support to the consensus as the Malagasy crisis’ single solution, and requiring the political prisoners’ release from custody.

These same clerics have very recently published a statement sharply criticizing France’s “interference” in the Malagasy crisis. “since the beginning of the crisis to that day, France has always been interfering each and every settlement attempt of the crisis in Madagascar” emphasized the Movement’s statement.
