The EU berates the Rajoelina authority’s constitutional mess

The HAT has been sunk in Brussels. Does Andry Rajoelina’s new authority already pay the errors of his youth back. The circumstances of the power change, the management of the political crisis, an exclusive roadmap… The European Union needed an account of this constitutional mess. Brussels asks for explanations from the current government in Madagascar. 

The HAT has been blamed for multiple infringements to democracy principles and human rights. The creation of the mixed national Commission of investigation to serve as political police, the appointment of Pety Rakotonirina, a former prisoner, political or not, at the city council of Fianarantsoa, have also been denounced. 

The worst is still to come; arrests and intimidations on parliamentarians are not the taste of the European Commission. Andry Rajoelina’s biggest political mistake which makes matters worse was the dissolution of the national assembly and the Senate to replace them by so-called popular nominees from his own side.     

The European Union definitely hampers the HAT’s progress so that it doesn’t move forward on the wrong way, via the roadmap established at the time of the Rajoelina side’s national gathering. The Constitutional shift in an express referendum in September has not been approved. The text project risks indeed to be carved to order for the one who took the power on March 17th, 2009 with the help of an army faction. 

The delegation driven by Andry Rajoelina tried to show a” real transition authorities’ will to institute a new constitutional order and the advent of the fourth Republic”. It came to defend its roadmap that is a one-sided vision of the transitional period. 

The HAT tries to stem the tide of Brussels’s correction. “The reinforced political dialogue with the European Union will be maintained as an important mean of discussion with the Madagascan authorities “. It has always been the case. Rajoelina’s authority must compose with the EU to find a solution for an exit of crisis in order to hope for any funds’ flow. 

The European Union has until there adopted a low profile behind the international Contact Group. After the suspension of the mediation announced by Ablassé Ouedraogo from the AU and Trébilé Dramé from the UNO, European ambassador Boidin took over. The HAT has been “officially» convened in Brussels. After the ambassador of the United States, the one of the EU is the target of the anti international community propaganda from the pro-Rajoelina medias.
