Following the investigation of the officers involved in the mutiny led in Ivato, the authorities and their devoted Colonel Richard Ravalomanana are hitting back by concentrating their attention on civilians opposing the HAT and pushing for the rise of a “genuine” transition in Madagascar. Professor Raymond Ranjeva is in the line.

The Ivato mutiny case used against the Ranjeva threat…

Everyone intending to take a single stand against the dictating power is entitled to prosecution and to jail sentence. Their crime? Standing against the HAT´s security of course! The commander of Analamanga´s CIRGN is officially mentioning the charge “attempt against state security”, an equivalent of 15 months of custody for the rebelling officers.

Six of them, already judged, are already behind bars. Apart from colonel Coutiti, who failed to respect his house arrest sentence, the others have all been indicted in the case February 7th, and condemned for having defended the presidential palace against rioting mobs. The authorities conducted series of searches in the suspects homes, and allegedly recovered documents  concerning Military Committees´ principles.

So where is the link with Raymond Ranjeva, the former international jurist? The figure is opposing the HAT´s dictatorship and pushing for a “genuine democratic transition”. The next target on the list? According to Colonel Ravalomanana, investigators are on their way to find out any link between the rebelling officers and Professor Ranjeva.

Some unknown sources would have alleged that the military committee to be enforced by general Noel Rakotonandrasana would have become a launching pad for Professor Ranjeva, had it come into completion. The authorities are investigating a potential meeting between him and the rebelling officers. Question 2: Why is the jurist´s daughter doing behind bars? Investigators are holding it as a measure dimmed to prevent contacts likely to thwart the investigation, between the father and his daughter.

Colonel Ravalomanana would not have found it to his liking, when Ranjeva´s daughter would have given the investigators a piece of her mind. Nowadays, the slightest challenge to the HAT has a large price. “Malagasy investigators must be respected” argued colonel Ravalomanana. The lady would have insulted his men by spitting words like “good to nothing”…the custody´s judicial base is everything but solid.

Then came the opposition´s politicians´ turn. The call upon the army to face up to its responsibilities is being held by the secretary of state in command of the national state police as the green light to the operation. General Randrianazary announced that the guilty officers would be entitled to sanctions complying with the military code. In the end, the HAT is keen on using the mutiny case in order to get rid of the genuine, local, legal and growing threat for Andry Rajoelina´s rule, professor Ranjeva
