For lack of any man who clearly and largely towered above the competition by the nature of his outstanding achievement during the year 2012, we have to make do with a chart of ten local figures who topped the headlines more often than the rest of us. The Dahalo Chief Remenabila cannot be part of the show, for crimes and violations of the law can obviously not be glorified as exemplary deeds. The floor belongs therefore to politicians, one trade business man, a member of the civil society, the HAT’s personal robocop, a diplomat, a sportsman and an artist.

The men of the year 2012

Omer Beriziky
He was said to be the first Prime Minister in Madagascar who had no power. Omer Beriziky slightly raised his tone to assert his role in a transition still unilaterally managed by the ruling power’s leader. And he repeatedly and publicly appeared on the screen in order to remind that the government actually has a leader. Beriziky Omer dared to say loud that the President of the transition should not become a candidate in the presidential election, while calming the ruling power’s passionate supporters’ wrath down by adding “it is merely my point as a citizen.”

Hery Rajaonarimampianina
The ruling power’s transitional chancellor of the checker remains the ruling power’s most reliable asset. Hery Rajaonarimampianina is the architect of the State’s financial survival through ordinary and custom taxes. The Transition owes him its ability to keep on paying its civil servants in spite of the passionate disputes involving students and teachers at every level. The transitional Finance Minister is also a talented civilian transportation aircraft trader. Two old Airbus planes purchased for Air Madagascar and Air Force One 2 sold off: the year 2012 was full of a juicy business.

Hajo Andrianainarivelo
He was supposed to be the TGV’s Mr. Know it all before being suspected of longing for the presidency for himself. The transitional minister in charge of decentralization is the member of the government with the most intense presence in the headlines. His trademarks are made of reforms on end and the launched presidential project of social housing. Hundreds of homes made of bricks shared out through a lottery: this was the TGV political system’s social housing program
.
Alain Ramaroson
The faked general and former strong arm for HAT was entitled to a piece of its mind, namely as a reward for his determination to highlight the alleged murder of his niece Nadine Ramaroson, as much as for his will to publicly incriminate political figures involved into the illegal rosewood trade. Particularly his latest intention of publicly embarrassing some of the ruling power ‘s leading figures, a couple of whom are actually not mentioned in this chart, brought the HAT’s Justice and police departments to harass Alain Ramaroson. Hat off for his fight for justice, even if he forgot who actually makes the law now.

General Richard Ravalomanana
The press never runs out of funny raw material and may rely on his corny fear spreading speeches and his dimwitted conspiracy theories. Richard Ravalomanana is a shooting star of the National State Police, which already touched his department’s sky as general, then got promoted in a record time as commander of the same department at national level. The HAT largely owes its political survival to this master in legalized crackdowns on reactionaries. The abuses committed by security forces deployed in the south and the failure to capture the leader of zebu thieves  Remenabila, might not pledge the presence of any drop of humility in his good resolutions for next year
.
Mamy Ravatomanga
He is undisputedly the tradesman of the year and business is actually doing well for this close friend of the transitional leader. Watch yourself! He’s the ruling power’s minion so hands off! When disputes ever lead to justice courts, he, and no one else, has the upper hand. Often pointed at and never incriminated, not even the press may use his name without very founded fears of pending jail sentences. No matter the evidences submitted, he, and only he, has the last say.

Patrick Zakariasy
Basically an accuser, he became relatively quickly accused on his turn. This native Tangalamena, nobility or traditional leader, denounced with evidences the illegal trade of rosewood intimately lead by “he, who must not be named”, the ruling power’s minion number one, and the deeds of a certain mining company operating on the western coast, in the run of a press conference. He was placed in custody as a casual outlaw, criminal or public danger to the society. The society in question is in such a case the here unnamed company, presence of which happens to be financially lucrative for the ruling power.

Eric Wong
Without beating around the bush in spite of the usual diplomatic tone, the United States’ Charge d’Affaires has denounced the excesses of the ruling power in Madagascar during the transitional period. He reiterated Barack Obama’s position and U.S. diplomatic stand, namely the compulsory need to rule the political figures who played their part into the year 2009’s putsch in Madagascar out of the incoming elections. All hail bravery!

José Rakotoarison
The XVMakis’ captain and the leading scorer in the history of rugby in Madagascar is a great champion. He did lead his team to victory in the D1B African Championship and offered a great moment of joy and pride to many Malagasy. The hell with the subsequent political exploitation of the sport event.

D-lain
The local stars’ favorite singer finally on front of the stage. With an exceptional voice and a huge talent, D-Lain brilliantly claimed victory during the Castel Opera Live international competition disputed in Abidjan. The 25 years old Lalaina Josia Ratolojanahary and his 20 years of singing experience completed the hat trick by winning a substantial reward, a contract with a studio and a launching pad for his career! Congratulations, the artist!
