Thousands of people demonstrated in the capital city center, longing for freedom of speech and calling upon the Place of Democracy to be reopened, and were entitled to tear gas and rubber bullets as an answer from the HAT’s police forces. While heavily armed masked soldiers were holding the front line, their general Richard Ravalomanana got its legal parade ready, namely the legal defense of a private property, that of Antananarivo’s Urban Commune.

The Place of Democracy remains prohibited, the repression does not ease

The HAT can nothing but using the Emmo Reg squad to prevent any attempt to speak out on the Place of Democracy. On Saturday, May 19th, thousands of people jointly called upon the site prohibited by the putsch originated ruling power to be reopened, as an evidence of a shadow of respect of the dealt transitional consensus from the ruling power. This time around, General Richard Ravalomanana’s squad literally prevented the “opposition” from speaking, as one of them began his speech.
The speaker in question was none other than Fidele Razara Pierre, Free FM station’s reporter. Rajoelina used his skills in 2009 to infuriate mobs against the Ravalomanana regime; with a newly recovered independence, the skilled reporter endorses the role of the national “watchdog” fulfilling his mission of warning citizens against the transitional power’s abuses. At Andohan’Analakely, Radio VIVA station’s former columnist openly denounced the lack of freedom of speech and the violation of press freedom.
“Even the United States of America, the government and not only the embassy, emphatically condemns the persecution of journalists and violation of freedom of speech in Madagascar,” declared Fidele Razara Pierre. The crowd was on the verge of putting the Place of Democracy under siege. So the Emmo Reg tackled its show’s Act one. Hooded policemen, national policemen and soldiers armed with AK-47 rifles cleared for action. Rubber bullets and tear gas were fired.
Act two, General Richard Ravalomanana justified his men’s violent reaction. An armed unidentified individual standing among the demonstrators would have arguably opened fire. As usual, the demonstration was being peaceful up to of the Emmo Reg’s intervention. Stones were dropped from the top of the Ambohidahy tunnel down to the street in order to block the traffic. The HAT’s forces subsequently took up the manhunt on board of brand new 4WD generously “offered by Rajoelina” throughout Analakely. General Richard Ravalomanana’s claimed a relatively small booty: 11 arrests and 6 releases. The charges were just as eccentric as the previous times’ ones and matched reality just as so poorly.
Who were actually in Ambohijatovo? The national repression manager’s lackeys rarely put their grip on top leaders. One of Free FM radio station’s technician was one of the arrested and then later on released demonstrators. The operational chief in command of the contingent deployed in Ambohijatovo declared that the journalists’ union would have given in. Apart from Free FM station’s Fidele Razara Pierre, some of the Zafy political sphere’s big fishes were noticed in Ambohijatovo, as well as a couple of men belonging to the SADC as observers. Why do the HAT and its little army keep on denying access to the Place of Democracy? Every time, everywhere, the final act begins this way. The beginning of the end is on stage from now on
