The urban Commune of Mahajanga granted with 4 months of salary

374 million Ariary, the equivalent of 4 months unpaid salary, such is the amount granted by the minister in charge of Territory Development and  Country Planning to the urban Commune of Mahajanga to pay the salary of its employees. For a couple of weeks, employees of this Commune’s administration have been holding strikes to protest against the non-payment of their seven months unpaid salary.

The City’s Mayor then made a formal request for a grant from the government. Responding to the Mayor’s request, Hajo Andrianainarivelo, the Minister of Territory and Country Planning wants to lighten the financial burden of the Commune of Mahajanga by committing to pay 4 months of the employees’ salary. The latter said the grant is exceptional because the payment of the salary is no longer the responsibility of his department.

The payment was made in two installments.  The first installment, amounting to 180 million Ar is already available on site after the signing of an agreement between both parties on March 13. As for the second installment, worth 194 million Ar, it is already in the preparation phase and after the usual proceedings, the Public Treasury will proceed with the payment.
