Interview with the elder Benoit Benjamin Jules

Toamasina speaking

In face of the current political troubles in the country, a 73 years old politically engaged elder of Raiamandreny famed across Toamasina city’s political arena, is expressing his views

Madonline (M): How are you rating the current political events?

Benoit Benjamin Jules (BBJ): It’s the same as what happened in 1947. The single difference: 1947 was concerning a political independence, now is a matter of economic independence.  The very same bad old things are being reenacted now:” dividing to rule”. As a matter of fact, it is clear that a couple of brothers are being induced to quarrel, something which leads to the present shambles: brethrens against brethrens, churches against churches, armed forces against armed forces.

M: any possible way out?

BJ: Life is the mankind’s natural most relevant treasure. So read the San Francisco agreements’ basics after the first and the second world wars. After the United Nations, the African Union set up its own status. Both were aiming at granting freedom to people through these pledges. The agreements dealt and signed in Maputo and Addis Ababa are equally part of the international struggle for human freedom, namely for Malagasy people’s freedom. The Maputo deals reflected the Malagasy will to refrain from violence and addressed two separated issues: One – the issue Andry Rajoelina/Marc Ravalomanana; two- the reshuffle of political rules of engagement used since 1960 in Madagascar, a process involving Didier Ratsiraka, Zafy Albert, Ravalomanana Marc, Andry Rajoelina and Mr Tsiranana Philibert’s representatives. Things have to be settled accordingly.

M: as a conclusion?

BBJ: Whatever implied solution but the recovery of the negotiation table is a foregone dead duck
