Tourism promotion in Madagascar: two major events in Mauritius

Despite the failure of the economy prevailing in Madagascar, the tourism sector continues to promote the Great Island as a tourist destination. Indeed, the Malagasy Embassy in Mauritius, in collaboration with the National Office of Tourism, will organize two events in Mauritius in order to revitalize the destination Madagascar.

The first event, called “Madagascar au Caudan Waterfront” second edition, will be held from September, 3 to 6, 2011 in Port Louis. It actually consists of a commercial event which aims at promoting different Malagasy products, and it will be an opportunity for local operators to develop partnerships because the event is, in some way, a reproduction of the Zoma market. 170 stands will be erected during the event and the visitors will see the participation of all the private sectors, including handicrafts, mining and many others.

The second event, called “Festival Culinaire Malagasy” (Malagasy Cuisine Exhibition), will be held from September, 1 to 10, 2011. The event will be an exhibition of typical Malagasy cuisine by chefs from Madagascar. It actually consists of showing how to cook typical Malagasy dishes and of making Mauritians and tourists who visit the show discover that Malagasy dishes have very special tastes.
