UNESCO is making efforts to digitize school manuals

Within the frame of the global target which aims to promote the Education For All (EFA), the Minister of National Education, Julien Razafimanazato, accompanied by a strong delegation from inside his ministry, visited Paris in order to attend the 11th session of the Education For All (EFA) Working Group on February 2 and 3, 2010 at the UNESCO’s Headquarters. The digitization of education and school manuals was the main agenda.

In order to establish new partnerships with UNESCO’s officials, the Malagasy delegation met with officials from the Sankoré project team. Following this, a partnership agreement for the development of digital school manuals in primary schools was signed with the entity that is responsible for designing the publication of these school manuals. The Sankoré project aims to promote digital classrooms and is, therefore, interested in the digitization of textbooks and manuals that are currently being used.

For this effort of school digitization, 100 school kits, costing 400 000 euros, will be dispatched to Madagascar. These school kits consist of equipments complying with international standards and computerized materials. Consequently, special schools destined for applications will be open for this purpose of school digitization.
