A delegation from the U.S Congress in Madagascar

According to sources from within the American Embassy of Madagascar, a delegation of the American Congress is landing in the Big Island to perform an official visit that will last a few days. The visit is part of the program known as “Reinforcement of Democratic Institutions in Africa.”

During their brief stay in Madagascar, the U.S Congress delegation will meet some of the local political actors in order to discuss the country’s return into constitutional order, to democratic governance that is set up through free and transparent elections and recognized by the international community. In order to ensure their transparency, these elections should be monitored by international observers.

In addition, the U.S Congress delegation will also discuss other relevant issues such as the rule of law, human rights, human trafficking and environment. Concerning the issues related to environment, the Congress delegation will meet and discuss with Dr. Patricia Wright and Dr. Russ Mittermier, two American environment experts working and residing in Madagascar.
