The trial of Professor Raymond Ranjeva started late due to a lengthy discussion over the procedures. The genuine trial’s debate is not likely to be tackled until March 20th. A crowd of opposition supporters besieged the court in Anosy to follow the trial. The armed forces basically objected the trial, without further consequences,; the accused soldiers face up to the judge anyway.

A long day in court for Raymond Ranjeva and the accused soldiers during the BANI case related trial

The lawyer defending Professor Raymond Ranjeva and his daughter Riana, charged with complicity in the BANI base camp rebellion which took place on November 17th, 2010, denied the involvement of the former judge of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, in the events. On that day, the officers announced the establishment of a Public Salvation Committee, namely a new shape of transition. The move was immediately considered by the High Authority of Transition as an attempt to challenge its undisputed rule. The trial is being denounced by the opposition and many foreign embassies, now that the political situation is moving towards appeasement and suspension of criminal proceedings as an evidence of compliance with the roadmap.
