Andry Rajoelina more confident than ever

The ministers of the High Authority of Transition are repeatedly advertising in favour of March 2010’s legislative elections, as the ideal solution to the political crisis. In every tour through provinces,as well as in every show on TV,  Rajoelina’s ministers openly implement the order to promote these elections

The three former presidents’ joint opposition front do not hear it this way. During a meeting held on Monday December 28th, representatives from the Marc Ravalomanana, Didier Ratsiraka et Albert Zafy mobilities emphasized the relevance of the Maputo and Addis Ababa processes as the decisive solution to the crisis

Political camps have only one common ground: the reality of the deadlock. National unity scheme has already been laid in its grave. Andry Rajoelina’s orders to reshuffle the Transition hammered the latest nail into its coffin, once fo all.

Rassured by the army and police’s pledged supoort, Andry Rajoelina is clearly intending to hit the road on his own, even if it leads to spoiling the political climate. Now that the chrismas lull has gone, and more or less been respected, the year’s first week has been ponctuated by events that are genuine causes for concern . The meeting joint held by the three mobilites opposed to Andry Rajoelina was the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment. And the mutiny attempt in a military base is forecasting everything but long term peace.
