Andry Rajoelina: the good pretext to boycott the Addis Ababa meeting

The reaction of the chief of the Transition was first and foremost politically motivated following the events that took place on Saturday night. “Neither agreement nor dialogue is possible in violence, the HAT decided not to participate in the Addis Ababa talks “, he has declared. He associates this refusal of violence to the country’s sovereignty, justifying thus this withdrawal from the ICG’s negotiation table. 

Andry Rajoelina fustigated the bomb attempts and “the murder of an unarmed man”, qualifying them as shameful for the Madagascan people. “The guilts will be punished by the law, whether they are in the country or abroad “, he claimed as leaving to his Interior Security minister the task to name the presumed backers in public. 

Andry Rajoelina leaves the initiative to the international community and expects for a condemnation of the recent acts of violence. Terrorism is unacceptable and must be condemned… we mustn’t negotiate as long as there are human casualties”. And there he goes again about the “one-sided” elections: “we attract the international community’s attention, it stated that a 24 months long transition would be too long and that elections are expected before the end of 2009; the HAT and the Madagascan people are ready for it”. Andry Rajoelina reiterated that his regime will make it with or without the help of foreign partners. He sustained that the HAT was already inclusive because “all political groups are members of the transition”. 

The HAT wants to be the victim but not the predator. The political retrieval is more that explicit. “The HAT has absolutely no interest to have a destabilized country… These terrorists’ backers are the policy makers who don’t approve the Transition “, affirmed Andry Rajoelina. Designated guilts that are all major figures of the Ravalomanana regime.
