The three Ravalomanana, Zafy and Ratsiraka mobilities are increasing the pressure on the government Roindefo II. They agreed on large scale street demonstrations if the Rajoelina mobility remains reluctant to return to the negotiation table before the September 20th, 2009 ultimatum deadline.

Anti-Rajoelina coalition: the movement is spreading through provinces

Intimidation and arrest threats are failing to deter the new anti-Rajoelina coalition. In Antananarivo, the movement is, although, being repressed by police forces and by a more than ever politically engaged justice minister. Albert Zafy, the three mobilities’ coalition spokesman has announced the beginning of contestation demonstrations in provinces. These are dimmed to last until the agreements of Maputo are respected by the Rajoelina mobility and by the Roindefo government.

In Toamasina, Didier Ratsiraka’s home territory, resistance is also rising behind president Zafy’s unexpectedly fierce movement. Victor Hong, a former “political prisoner” at the time of the Ravalomanana regime doesn’t mind his words to justify his opposition to the Andry Rajoelina that he used to support. “When engaging the popular struggle, the deal was the ouster of Marc Ravalomanana, making Andry Rajoelina the new president was completely off the point”, he argued.

The first step of the contestation movement against the transition and the de facto government both imposed by the Rajoelina mobility is alleged to be taking place in Toamasina. “In order to smoothen the way out of from the crisis, the Maputo agreements have to be respected; if they are not, we must go down to the street”, warned Victor Hong. The former president of the association of political prisoners’ families appears pragmatic and idealistic at the same time. “No one who feels oppressed can find a shelter in silence “.

Victor Hong, one of Ratsiraka’s proxies, recalled that the anti-Ravalomanana movement has been reaching far beyond 2009. “Andry Rajoelina only joined the marching band, it is wrong to say that he killed the crocodile”, he said. Then he argued that the TGV didn’t react when Viva radio has been shut. “Does he believe the provincial population’s turmoil to be worth his radio station?” slammed Victor Hong.

My enemy’s enemy is my ally. Albert Zafy openly subscribed to the theory. “I should not be walking beside presidents Ratsiraka and Ravalomanana in regard of what I have undergone, but the supreme nation’s interest must prevail”, he said. “We are bound by the Maputo agreements”. The former president is urging to silence pride for the sake of national reconciliation. The three mobilities are bound to re-conquer the place of democracy, so baptized by a certain Andry Rajoelina back in January 2009.
